Travel with dog or not?

Firstly, my apology for using English. I just relocated to Germany for a month, still catching up my German. Tut mir leid. I have a vacation planned in 2 weeks, I am wondering do you usually travel with your dog during vacations or leave them to the boarding school or friends? I came from US, there traveling with dog is not as convenient as here, so mostly we send our dog to the boarding school. Of cause she didn’t like it much. I would like to know how is the situation here? I live in Düsseldorf, if you use boarding school for your dog, any recommendations? Big THANK YOU!

Hello🙋🏻‍♀️🐶😊 welcome to Germany! You have a beautiful sweet dog! Well, I always travel with my dog, but I often have guest dogs from friends, when they go to a holiday abroad. Maybe you will find a private person who can offer your dog a place to stay during your time on vacation? I would help out, but I live in Nuremberg, so I guess it is too far? There are also some Apps for dog sitters. Or you could ask people in your local dog park, maybe they can recomment a boarding school:) Goog luck!

We do travel with our dog too. We use the Caravan, so there is not any problem. It is her second home.

I also travel a lot with my dogs, mostly by train. If your dog is used to have many people around him, it is not a big deal, although i think the ticket for the dog is a bit expensive. Also most of the Hotels accept dogs here, but some charge an extra fee. There is an app called "rover" where you can find dogsitters, if you cant take him with you.

Thanks for your insights. Yes! My dog loves to be around people( actually to be the center of all the attentions 😄)

Your dog will need an EU passport or be cleared for travel. With a microchip and a passport, your documentation will be sufficient. For dogs under 8kg, they can travel with you in the airplane cabin which is fine. Take a more expensive airline (Ryanair and EasyJet do not take animals). Otherwise, I would recommend train and car. A lot of hotels are dog-friendly but might charge a little fee. We really enjoyed Greece. However, visit a vet a few months before each trip to ensure you have all necessary vaccinations and medications. Leishmaniose and Babesiose are quite common south of Austria and quite dangerous for your beloved furry one. A rabies vaccination is always required for border crossings (often <12M old).

Hey there, I travel with my dog…always and always by car. It is not that we do not have great daycare or dog hotels 🏨…it is just that I don‘t trust anyone else with my dog than me. Some might find that a bit obsessive…but that is just me 😊
