Group Admin FAQs

First steps after creating a group

Would you like to start a Dogorama group or have you just created one and are now wondering how to get started? Then check out our suggestions for a successful group launch and get inspired.

The overview page is your group’s calling card and should be your first priority:

Write a meaningful text that conveys the group’s goals. Use the option to upload an attractive group image. Add the topics you want to cover. If necessary, include group rules.

Here you’ll find a detailed article about the overview page.

Check out our articles on the basic settings and decide whether your group should be open or private, visible or invisible, location-independent or local.

For groups that are intended as a meeting point for Dogorama members interested in a specific topic or dog breed, we recommend the setting open – visible – location-independent.

But there’s no right or wrong here. Which options are best depends on the goals you pursue with your group.

If you didn’t restrict visibility when creating the group, your group can be found after creation, appears in the overview, and shows up in relevant searches by Dogorama members.

Invite members

You don’t have to wait for interested people to find you—you can actively promote your group. You have 3 different options for this:
  • Post on your feed
  • Automatic direct message in chat
  • Link.
Note:
Please use these contact options responsibly. Targeted contact with 10 members who really fit your group will be more successful than mass messaging.

Curiosity, sharing, and connecting with like-minded people are at the heart of Dogorama group life. But from time to time, conflicts may arise in your group.

Don’t be afraid of such situations! We have put together extensive information and tips on moderation to help you restore peace in the group.

Although it’s possible to run a group alone for a long time, it’s twice as much fun with like-minded people. That’s why all group admins can assemble a moderation team (= mod team).

If you notice particularly active members in your group, just ask if they’d like to support you.

Here you’ll find information about the moderator role and how to add group members to the mod team.

Group admins

As a group admin, you can run your group largely freely. Please be a present and active part of your small community. Together with your mod team, you are responsible for administration and respectful interaction among members within the group. This includes knowing and following our Community Guide and Terms of Use.

If you’re on vacation or otherwise offline for a longer period, please inform your mod team. During your absence, a team member can temporarily take over group administration.

Tip: Inform your group members in the feed about your absence. That way, everyone knows who to contact during this time.

Mistakes are human and help us grow. A single mistake is not a big deal. To avoid repetition, it’s important to accept and implement suggestions for improvement. You’ll have enough time and support for this, and you can always contact us if you’re unsure.

If suggestions are ignored or further violations occur, we reserve the right to remove you from group administration.

Mod team

Additional moderators can support you in all group matters. Even in a small group, having a reliable team can be very helpful. For larger groups, we always recommend not leading alone, but as a team.

Click “Show all” to open the “Moderation team and members” menu.

Use the crown icon to add a group member to the moderation team.

To avoid mistakes, a popup asks you to confirm the status change.

The crown icon is now green and the member is part of your mod team.

Rights

Moderators have essentially the same options as you as group admin, so they can best support you:
  • Edit group info
  • Handle join requests
  • Handle reports
  • Delete posts
  • Remove members from the group.

Only you as group admin can add or remove members from the mod team.

If a member wants to leave your mod team, there are two options. The person can either leave themselves or be removed by the group admin.

Remove from mod team

Click “Show all” to open the “Moderation team and members” menu.

Use the green crown icon to remove a member from the moderation team.

To avoid mistakes, a popup asks you to confirm the status change.

The crown icon is now gray and the member is no longer part of the mod team. Group membership is not affected.

Leave the mod team yourself

If a member wants to leave, they can do so via their personal group page and the crown icon.

Settings

The homepage serves as your group’s calling card. Here you can welcome group members and spark the interest of new members.

Image

You can increase your group’s recognition by adding an image or logo via the camera icon.
All groups are presented in the overview with their name and image or logo.

About the group

Let the Dogorama community know what topics your group covers, its goal, and which members you especially want to attract.
You can edit this section at any time via the pencil icon.

Rules

Here you can inform members and interested people about any specific restrictions for your group. For a regional group, for example, a restriction to certain postal code areas may make sense.

You can edit this at any time via the pencil icon next to “About the group.”

Note: The Dogorama Community Guide applies to all groups and is always linked here for all members.

Topics

Selecting topics for your group makes it easier for interested people to find the group via search (if the group is visible).
The topics listed here are also relevant for display on the group overview page.
You can add new topics or remove unwanted ones at any time via the pencil icon.

Groups in Dogorama are generally open to all members. But as group admin, you can decide how access to your group should work.

Open groups

Open groups are always freely accessible to all Dogorama members. No join request is needed.

Open groups are always visible.

Open groups can be converted to private groups.

Private groups

To join a private group, a request must be made.

Only private groups can be invisible.

The decision for a private group is final. It cannot be changed to a public group later.

Tip: You’ll find this setting in your group’s context menu (= the 3 dots at the top right) under “Edit group basic data.”

If you chose a private group, you can make it either visible or invisible.

Visible groups

Visible groups appear in the overview and search. Any Dogorama member can find them.

Invisible groups

Invisible groups do not appear in the overview or search. They can only be found via a direct link.

Note: To fulfill our legal obligations, Dogorama team members with the appropriate permissions can also view invisible groups.

Tip: You’ll find this setting in your group’s context menu (= the 3 dots at the top right) under “Edit group basic data.”

You can decide whether your group should be location-independent or have a local restriction.

Location-independent groups

Location-independent groups appear in the overview without considering regional criteria.

For most topic- and breed-specific groups, this is the right setting.

Local groups

For local groups, regional criteria are considered on the overview page.

This is the right choice for groups with an explicit regional focus, possibly for local meetups, regulars’ tables, or similar.

Tip: You’ll find this setting in your group’s context menu (= the 3 dots at the top right) under “Edit group basic data.”

Member management

Groups in Dogorama are generally open to all members. Open groups are always freely accessible to all Dogorama members. For private groups, members must apply first.

The decision to admit new members is up to you as group admin (possibly together with your mod team) and is based on the admission criteria defined for your group.

Groups are meant to connect people by topic or region. It can therefore make sense to tie membership to certain criteria and thus limit who is admitted.

Such requirements must be transparently stated on your group’s overview page and applied consistently. This helps minimize misunderstandings and conflicts. You should treat all members neutrally and act independently of personal preferences or dislikes. Only the member’s suitability and behavior should matter.

On your group’s overview page, under “Moderation team and members,” you can always see if there are applications for your group.

Applications can be handled by the group admin and moderation team members.

Accept application

The Dogorama member is added to your group and receives an automatic notification.

Reject application

When rejecting, a chat window opens with information about your group already included. You can quickly inform the applicant why membership isn’t possible.

Tip: If you want, you can view the applicant’s profile by clicking their profile picture before deciding.

Removing a member should always be a last resort, but may be necessary in case of repeated disruptions.

Recommended procedure:

  • Warn the member after the first disruption. The warning must state that repeated behavior will result in removal.
  • After a second disruption, the member can be removed.

If you want to give more than a second chance, you can of course issue several warnings before removal.

How do I remove a member?

Click “Show all” to open the “Moderation team and members” menu.

Use the remove icon (crossed-out circle) to remove the member from the group.

To avoid mistakes, a popup asks you to confirm the removal.

Note: Please inform the member about the reason to minimize misunderstandings and discussions afterwards.

Moderation

Even though interactions in Dogorama are usually very pleasant, conflicts can’t be completely avoided.

A respectful discussion can often be enriching. But if there are personal attacks or violations of the Community Guide, you as group admin, together with your moderation team, have various options to restore peace and enforce the rules.

All content in your group is subject to the Community Guide. What isn’t allowed elsewhere in Dogorama also can’t be posted or shared in groups. Please pay special attention to the following content:

  • Personal attacks, insults, discriminatory statements, etc.
  • Posts aimed at trading or mediating dogs
  • Advertising content, spam, donation requests, etc.
  • Email addresses, phone numbers, messenger contacts, private messages, etc.

Note: Content containing feedback, criticism, or suggestions for improvement about Dogorama does not belong in your group. The same applies to reports about suspicious profiles. Only the Dogorama team can respond to these. In such cases, always refer your members to support so they can get help and reports can be processed.

Relaxed attitude: Avoid overly petty reactions. As group admin, don’t let yourself be provoked or provoke others.

Friendliness: A friendly hint often helps to get a heated discussion back on track. For minor disputes, a wink can help defuse the situation.

Clarity: Communicate clearly and directly why intervention is necessary. You can always refer to our Community Guide.

Consult others: If you’re unsure, ask your mod team for advice. If you’re still unsure, you can contact support for group admins.

Delete posts or comments: Posts that don’t follow Dogorama’s rules, e.g. contain insults, should be removed promptly.

Any group member can report rule violations they notice to the group admin. You receive these reports—if applicable, together with your moderation team—in a clear, easy-to-process format.

Reports at a glance

A quick look at your group’s homepage shows if there are any open reports. If there are, you’ll see a note directly under the group name.

Clicking the notice opens the reports overview page. Here you can also view older reports, which appear grayed out.

Reviewing a report

Selecting a report shows you all relevant information:

  • The author of the content
  • The text
  • Date and time of creation
  • The reason for the report given by the reporter
  • The reporter
  • The status of the report, including who handled it.

A direct link button leads directly to the reported post or comment.

For serious violations you want to inform us about, or if you’re unsure, you can forward the report to the Dogorama team.

Processed reports can then be closed.

Tip: More information about inappropriate content can be found under “What doesn’t belong in your group?”

More information about deleting can be found under “How can I delete posts or comments?”

If a post or comment is posted in your group’s feed that doesn’t belong there, you should remove it.

Tip: More information about inappropriate content can be found under “What doesn’t belong in your group?”

The delete function

The option to delete a post or comment is in the context menu (= the 3 dots) at the bottom right of the content.

After selecting “Delete post/comment,” a confirmation prompt appears. So you don’t have to worry about deleting something by mistake.

Info message

If you had to remove a post or comment, please briefly inform the affected member.

Use the “Delete with message” option in the confirmation window. This opens a chat with the member.

Links are a natural part of online conversations. We want to restrict their use as little as possible.

Links are generally allowed unless:

  • They are self-promotion with commercial interest.
  • They lead to content that is illegal or harmful to minors.

Note: Links can be judged by their link text and do not need to be opened by you.
